The whole Curious George series has been a favorite of my kids. From very early on, we started reading them to them, and the older they got, the more there was to learn and understand from the books and the pictures. Some reviewers have complained that these are not the original Curious George books or that the plot is very repetitive. While these are not the originals, my kids do not seem to mind, and I don't think they are "worse" than the originals, just slightly different if at all.The plot is repetitive but that is because George is always getting into trouble so you have the same pattern--he gets curious, he does something naughty, something bad happens, then something good comes out of the bad event, and then everyone is happy and George is usually a hero. This does not bother me in the least. My kids find his adventures interesting and never get bored with that "plot." To them, it is funny and what makes Curious George funny. Sure, if this was an adult book then the repetition might be problematic but thankfully it is not an adult book!The illustrations are nice and detailed and provide a lot of material for my kids to look at while I read the story to them. The quality of the pages is good and it's nice that there is sometimes stickers or a little activity in the back, though truthfully my kids have never cared for them much.I like that there are many of these books because my kids become familiar with George and the concept of series, and can distinguish one book in the series from another and even have favorites.I really don't think you can go wrong with these books. I don't know many other kids that don't like these. They are a good investment!

If you like Curious George you will enjoy this, it is not long but such a cute little book with pictures.

I saw Dr Harriet Hall's review of this in a recent edition of Skeptical Inquirer & could not be more grateful to her or the authors. I began menopause at about 50 & shortly after was prescribed pharmaceutical HRT, which worked wonders until my Gynecologist moved out of state 5 years ago. Every reputable doctor I've asked since to prescribe HRT to me has said, "It would be malpractice for me to give a 55+ year old woman more HRT." I gave up because having had a brief stint of "Bioidentical" HRT, I can tell you it's dicey, the dosages are uneven & oh yeah completely unregulated. It's like your cousin Ralph whipped up your meds up in his kitchen - what could possibly go wrong!?! So = Thanks WHI for nearly ruining my life! For the past 5 years I've suffered horribly & as it turns out, apparently unnecessarily due to a slightly elevated risk of strokes or breast cancer. My life has barely been worth living since I developed every single side effect of low estrogen, progesterone & testosterone. I've been suicidal, depressed & anxious to the point I nearly lost my soulmate of 30 years from an absolute total lack of libido & constant talk of wanting to die. It's now been 2 weeks since my first Premarin & micronized progresterone pills & I'm already starting to feel good again. My gratitude knows no bounds & by the way, if I have a stroke or heart attack now at least I'll die happy!

I just finished reading the book, Estrogen Matters, and found it to be very interesting. I have been taking bioidentical hormones for about 10 years, and I agree that estrogen matters, a lot. However, Dr. Bluming recommends taking Premarin and Provera. In case Dr. Bluming isn't aware, Premarin in a dosage of 0.625 mg. comes at a cost of $192.14 for a one-month supply, and that's not including the cost of a progesterone which is also necessary if a woman has her uterus. I have my bioidentical hormones made in a compounding pharmacy, which has worked very well for me. The information provided in the book, Estrogen Matters, is very much appreciated, particularly on bones and brains, and I agree with what the book has to say on these important concerns. Most women are in a difficult position when they become menopausal. It's either take hormone replacements or suffer from hot flashes, bone loss and Alzheimer's, all to come sooner or later. Women's bone loss starts as soon as menopause begins; that is, in most women. All this can be helped by taking hormones, and I agree that taking bioidentical hormone replacement has been a great help to my health. At age 70 (I entered menopause at age 53) I was diagnosed with severe osteoporosis. So I started taking bioidentical hormone replacement, even though I had a very difficult time finding a doctor who would prescribe them for me. I did locate a doctor who was listed in one of Suzanne Somers' books, but I had to drive 6 hours one way to his office. When I started taking bioidentical hormones (estrogen and progesterone), my bone scan showed my BMD in my lumbar spine to be .637. Through taking bioidentical hormones since 2009, my BMD in 2017 was .956. I exercise every day, eat well, and I credit bioidentical hormones with the improvement in my BMD where it is now. I am so grateful to Suzanne Somers and her books for the information she and doctors she interviewed provided for me and for women. I am grateful to Dr. Bluming and Carol Tavris for providing the information they provide in Estrogen Matters. I would like them to know that bioidentical hormones are very helpful, even essential for my bone health. I also at one time took Premarin and Provera. I did not do well on Provera or on any progestin. I have had absolutely no problems with taking bioidentical estrogen and bioidentical progesterone. I think Premarin is too expensive for most women. Health care and pharmaceuticals seem to be available only for the rich. This is not right.

(Yes.)The authors recount the untold story of the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI), which profoundly changed the way physicians think about HRT and frightened millions of women from taking it; their fascinating and shocking account reveals the WHI’s shortcomings, exaggerated fear-generating “findings,” and statistical deceptions—and the WHI’s own unwillingness to report any good news about HRT.“In short, I can’t recommend this engaging book more highly — for women in the years before and during menopause, for doctors, and for anyone interested in science and medicine.”

I just finished reading Estrogen Matters. Sound of trumpets. And with the usual 15 "must reads" piled up on my bedside table. What this book now needs is its selection as required reading in a med school course. In a perfect world, the AMA would see that every gynecologist, if not every internist, has a copy. My own copy now goes to my 47-year-old granddaughter, who's just the right age to read it.

Every woman should read this book. Every man who knows a woman should read this book. It is long past time to correct the myths around HRT and this book is a great start. Thank you to the authors!

Tolstoy is a master at depicting wartime action and the campaigns of pursuit, capture or killing which are inherent in war."The Death of Ivan Ilyich", "The Kreutzer Sonata" and "The Devil" are largely concerned with the subjective evolutions of individual consciousness in relation to external perceived challenges. My early exposure to the psychologically penetrating tales of Henry James has made me predisposed to be more comfortable in these subjective realms where specific characters undergo psychological/spiritual journeys. "The Death of Ivan Ilyich" depicts the life of an attorney/judge who has gone through all the right steps and played by the societal rules for reaching success and prosperity in life. He believes that his life has obtained a stability and order and that he has reached the pinnacle of success, until a random accident resulting in a bruise in his side, seemingly inconsequential but escalating to severe internal pain disrupts all of his sense of order. His selfish wife now seems self-absorbed and irritable with Ivan's health crisis as it presents an inconvenience in her life. His escalating illness, never named but presumably cancer, forces Ivan to reevaluate his life and question all his previous judgments. He goes through all the stages of dying to the point of ultimate acceptance. He reaches that point which always fascinated Tolstoy and compelled him to contemplate the process to the ultimate last step of consciousness that he also depicted in 'War and Peace', as if he wanted to venture as close as possible to the 'final frontier' and still be able to return to tell the tale. Ivan's serenity precedes his physical death and achieves the ultimate transformation.The character in 'The Kreutzer Sonata" seems like he just stepped out of the pages of one of Dostoevsky's intense novels and wandered into Tolstoy's universe. Like Raskolnikov, he is a killer and, also like Raskolnikov, he needs to make a complete, thorough confession to another human. His jealousy and ambivalence to his wife's beauty and seductiveness has culminated in murder. The character repents of the murder, but not, as Tolstoy later made clear, of his aversion to sexual pleasure. Tolstoy's own revulsion toward sexual pleasure in his later life made explicit his own attitude. Despite this obvious bias, the story can be read as a compelling psychological fable without knowing the feelings of the author."Master and Man" is one of Tolstoy's most evocative tales. A greedy landowner, Brekhunov, takes his servant, Nikita, with him to a neighboring landowner in order to purchase a valuable piece of land. In his haste to reach his destination before other prospective buyers, he speeds his horse and servant on through a snowstorm, gets lost and, as night approaches, appears to be stranded through the frigid night. The horse is pushed beyond endurance and dies and he abandons his servant, who is succumbing to hypothermia, to find his way, gets lost and ends up back at his sleigh. He undergoes a radical spiritual transformation from self-obsessed aristocrat, willing to sacrifice anyone in behalf of reaching his goal to resignation. This predicament is no one else's doing but his own. He has refused a previous offer to stay with a family overnight and resume his journey in the morning. He realizes too late that he should have accepted that offer. Left with no one else to hold responsible but himself, he decides to cover his dying servant with his own body in the back of the carriage, dying in the process but enabling his servant to survive. Like Ivan Ilyich, he travels through different stages before reaching a spiritual epiphany and considering the worth of someone other than himself. The nocturnal cold and the slow, inevitable acquiescence to the harshness of the environment is reminiscent of the equally chilling Jack London tale, "To Build a Fire".The final story in the collection, the novella "Hadji Murat," take us full circle back to the Caucassus and tells the story of real life Chechen rebel Hadji Murat who, through a chain of circumstances, felt forced to retain his honor by defying the more militant rebel Shamil, who has held Murat's mother, wife and son captive, and defecting to the Russian forces. Murat is constantly aware that he may be placing himself in an untenable situation in which he is not fully trusted by either the Russians or the Chechens. Against this foundation, Tolstoy wanders into the minds of various rebels and Russians, even launching into a tirade against the lecherous and cruel Tsar Nicholas I who prided himself on being against the death penalty while also condemning prisoners to run gauntlets of thousands of blows resulting in certain fatality. Tolstoy lost none of his descriptive powers in the final years of his life. 'Hadji Murat" is as compellingly cinematic as anything he had written previously. My only reservation with the story, as for most of the others in this collection, is that they could all benefit from being fleshed out in greater length. He has the material for several novels here and, while I'm not advocating expanding them to the sizes of his magnum opuses, I feel that they could have been improved by more intensive exploration of the characters and circumstances. The tales race by through successions of characters we don't have enough time to get to know thoroughly before being thrust into another setting. In my view, Tolstoy never reigned in his maximalist tendencies, even in his shorter works. Nonetheless, what we have are still vital and indispensable contributions to a titanic literary career.

Have been meaning to read this classic novella for years and finally did. The outcome is foretold at the very beginning. It is a harrowing read. Ivan Ilyich is a character who you feel you may well have known -- a bright and motivated young man who works hard but doesn't spend a lot of thinking about what his values and needs really are. He achieves success in his career, which becomes the most central focus of his life, while personal relationships and virtually every other pursuit take a back seat. Only near the end of his life does he question his choices.I have not read much fiction in recent years but I could not put this book down, and I have been thinking about it a great deal since I finished it.

First, this is not War and Peace, you can read it in a normal time period instead of over an entire season.In many ways Tolstoy is the first of the modern authors in that I believe he knew and loved all his characters which is one of the primary tenants of brilliant writing. Ivan Ilych, for example, has many contradictory sides that come together within the character and that can only be achieved by a writer who knows more about Ilych than is needed in the story. I write this because the entire story could have been just the dialogue of Ilych with himself, at least if it had been written by someone not as talented and in one dimension. Now, unfortunately I have probably confused you but that is how The Death of Ivan Ilych is, while entertaining from the beginning half way through you realize that the story is not about what you thought it was, it is in a different place, and at that point you are captivated.Based on the first portion of the story, almost half, the reader feels that this is a biography of a Russian government worker, a judge, and his family and social life. In fact it is about his feelings about life as he closes in on his own death. He questions his relationships, his life, his achievements, the importance of all of those, and the reader can relate if honest with themselves. I kept reminding myself that Gandhi felt this was one of the best works he had ever read and it made it easier to understand Tolstoy’s motive. Without that I may have been lead to believe this was going to be morbid and would end with the grim reaper entering from behind a curtain and miss the teachings that were in my hands.Maybe now I will take on War and Peace.

This book is for lovers of truth.... What starts as a story about a man with little depth ends up being about a man who cannot tolerate lies. His only comfort as he dies is with someone who is simple and natural and accepts the truth of the situation he is in. The main character, Ivan Ilyich, finally at the end connects with a spiritual experience of forgiveness, kindness, and being beyond death. It is beautiful the way Leo Tolstoy exposes the thinking of the different characters and what motivates them. This is literature with amazing depth. A pleasure to read.

Phil Weinmeister is a master of his craft, and is well known as an expert in the domain of Salesforce communities. As someone who as worked mostly on other parts of the platform, entering the world of communities can be a bit intimidating. Yes, there are some common principles around security, but alot of it is really brand new, and has changed a ton since the product was first introduced. Even as someone who has build Salesforce solutions for 8+ years, this book was an invaluable resource to guide me through my first build. On top of that, I've joined a webinar he has led, and the guy is super nice and willing to help anyone. Highly Recommend!

This book provides a quick starter for Salesforce communities. It provides great tips, best practices and explains things to watch for when working with the Salesforce communities. Author has thoroughly covered the related topics. I highly recommend this book to Salesforce beginners and experts as well as to the developers and non-developers.

This book was well-organized and east to read. The diagrams do a great job of explaining the important Community Cloud design and functions. I read the book over a couple of days and learned enough about Salesforce Communities to pass the Salesforce Community Cloud Consultant certification exam.

If you’re already working with Salesforce Community Cloud or have plans to, this book should be on the top of your list. It will give you the best unbiased information around Communities, and will equip you to have a successful Community implementation or enhancement. You don’t have to be the developer or administrator who will be building the Community to make it a worthwhile read. While I learned some great technical tips and tricks in the later chapters, the first few Chapters relay non-technical information that is key to a successful Community that I feel is often overlooked. Phil goes through his mindset for planning for and then measuring the success of the Community. As someone who works with Communities on a daily basis, this makes for a great “play book”.Phil uses his vast knowledge of Communities and business experience to provide excellent examples throughout which makes this book easy to read and comprehend for someone at any level. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just heard about Community Cloud yesterday, this book has something for you.

I was fortunate enough to get this book pre-release and have read it no less than three times! Now I have purchased it and plan to do so again for several friends who need the boost and direction that Corinna provides herein.You can come out of art school on fire to make your mark, only to find yourself dead in the water without the practical grounding and business info to make it in the art world. I came out of school thinking all would be rainbows and unicorns (hey, it was the early 70s), and somehow talent and desire would propel me to all my dreams. Some ridiculous amount of years later, after a life of distraction, marriage, kids and working "real jobs" while my soul and joy suffered, I got to read this book, to find the straightforward, matter-of-fact, blueprint of what it takes to get where you want to be as an artist. Bottom line:Work, do your homework, treat it like a business every day, because that's what it IS. You wear all the hats until you are successful enough to share the load. It's not torture, it's not hard, it's life.I admire Corinna's persistence in spite of her health and energy issues, and completely rational analysis of her successful actions. Her ability to convey them is a big clue to how successful her next book on communication for artists will be. Can't wait!

I found Corrina Thurston's first book to be well-written and thought out. She shares an appreciable amount of helpful information, learned from her own successful experiences. She writes in a warm conversational, tone, and her book is easy to read and comprehend. I'm grateful for the help she offers to artists, whether healthy or struggling with chronic illness, who want to build their own art business. I think this book would be useful to anyone who would like to succeed in making a living with their art.

Corrina's book is comprehensive, informative, honest, relatable, helpful and inspiring. Her recommendations and strategies strongly resonate, and her writing style is like receiving advice from a trusted friend who has been there-and learned from it. I have been living with chronic illness and creating music and art to heal for 10 years with limited energy, so I loved learning more specific ideas for growing my own art business. I enjoyed that not only did Corrina include in each chapter business strategies, but a personal story of things she tried, and what led her to doing some things differently. She's not afraid to share herself with the reader-even parts she might not ordinarily want others to see. Even though we are in different artistic fields, I found Corrina's messages in the book very transferable and highly recommend to anyone wanting to build her/his art business.

I was excited to read this book. Corrina is unbelievably talented. It is simply amazing that she is able to concentrate on her art work while having such a debilitating disease. Her work is so well done & each piece leaves you wondering what she will do next!This book was a pleasure to read. It has so many great tidbits in it for artists and others building a business. This is a book that is well written with helpful information for both people with medical problems and people without them! Many of the points could apply to running any business. Looking forward to the follow-up book!

Some of what the author covers is traditional info. But most of it is from her own unique perspective and that’s what makes the book refreshing. Even though I’m not ill, I often work till I drop. I’ve already started adopting her advice on how to rest and recharge. And I’m doing it without guilt!

The book has wonderful nuggets of inspiration throughout. Plus, learning Corrina's story of determination and perseverance is one all artist need to take to heart.

It was more a personal account of her illness and how she’s had to work around that. I didn’t really find it helpful from a business perspective, more of just an interesting read as to how a fellow Vermont artist did their thing.
