Phil Weinmeister is a master of his craft, and is well known as an expert in the domain of Salesforce communities. As someone who as worked mostly on other parts of the platform, entering the world of communities can be a bit intimidating. Yes, there are some common principles around security, but alot of it is really brand new, and has changed a ton since the product was first introduced. Even as someone who has build Salesforce solutions for 8+ years, this book was an invaluable resource to guide me through my first build. On top of that, I've joined a webinar he has led, and the guy is super nice and willing to help anyone. Highly Recommend!

This book provides a quick starter for Salesforce communities. It provides great tips, best practices and explains things to watch for when working with the Salesforce communities. Author has thoroughly covered the related topics. I highly recommend this book to Salesforce beginners and experts as well as to the developers and non-developers.

This book was well-organized and east to read. The diagrams do a great job of explaining the important Community Cloud design and functions. I read the book over a couple of days and learned enough about Salesforce Communities to pass the Salesforce Community Cloud Consultant certification exam.

This is a very useful book. As someone new to SF Communities the step by step descriptions were useful.

Great read. The concepts within are usefull for more than communities

If you’re already working with Salesforce Community Cloud or have plans to, this book should be on the top of your list. It will give you the best unbiased information around Communities, and will equip you to have a successful Community implementation or enhancement. You don’t have to be the developer or administrator who will be building the Community to make it a worthwhile read. While I learned some great technical tips and tricks in the later chapters, the first few Chapters relay non-technical information that is key to a successful Community that I feel is often overlooked. Phil goes through his mindset for planning for and then measuring the success of the Community. As someone who works with Communities on a daily basis, this makes for a great “play book”.Phil uses his vast knowledge of Communities and business experience to provide excellent examples throughout which makes this book easy to read and comprehend for someone at any level. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just heard about Community Cloud yesterday, this book has something for you.

I was fortunate enough to get this book pre-release and have read it no less than three times! Now I have purchased it and plan to do so again for several friends who need the boost and direction that Corinna provides herein.You can come out of art school on fire to make your mark, only to find yourself dead in the water without the practical grounding and business info to make it in the art world. I came out of school thinking all would be rainbows and unicorns (hey, it was the early 70s), and somehow talent and desire would propel me to all my dreams. Some ridiculous amount of years later, after a life of distraction, marriage, kids and working "real jobs" while my soul and joy suffered, I got to read this book, to find the straightforward, matter-of-fact, blueprint of what it takes to get where you want to be as an artist. Bottom line:Work, do your homework, treat it like a business every day, because that's what it IS. You wear all the hats until you are successful enough to share the load. It's not torture, it's not hard, it's life.I admire Corinna's persistence in spite of her health and energy issues, and completely rational analysis of her successful actions. Her ability to convey them is a big clue to how successful her next book on communication for artists will be. Can't wait!

I found Corrina Thurston's first book to be well-written and thought out. She shares an appreciable amount of helpful information, learned from her own successful experiences. She writes in a warm conversational, tone, and her book is easy to read and comprehend. I'm grateful for the help she offers to artists, whether healthy or struggling with chronic illness, who want to build their own art business. I think this book would be useful to anyone who would like to succeed in making a living with their art.

Corrina's book is comprehensive, informative, honest, relatable, helpful and inspiring. Her recommendations and strategies strongly resonate, and her writing style is like receiving advice from a trusted friend who has been there-and learned from it. I have been living with chronic illness and creating music and art to heal for 10 years with limited energy, so I loved learning more specific ideas for growing my own art business. I enjoyed that not only did Corrina include in each chapter business strategies, but a personal story of things she tried, and what led her to doing some things differently. She's not afraid to share herself with the reader-even parts she might not ordinarily want others to see. Even though we are in different artistic fields, I found Corrina's messages in the book very transferable and highly recommend to anyone wanting to build her/his art business.

I was excited to read this book. Corrina is unbelievably talented. It is simply amazing that she is able to concentrate on her art work while having such a debilitating disease. Her work is so well done & each piece leaves you wondering what she will do next!This book was a pleasure to read. It has so many great tidbits in it for artists and others building a business. This is a book that is well written with helpful information for both people with medical problems and people without them! Many of the points could apply to running any business. Looking forward to the follow-up book!

Some of what the author covers is traditional info. But most of it is from her own unique perspective and that’s what makes the book refreshing. Even though I’m not ill, I often work till I drop. I’ve already started adopting her advice on how to rest and recharge. And I’m doing it without guilt!

The book has wonderful nuggets of inspiration throughout. Plus, learning Corrina's story of determination and perseverance is one all artist need to take to heart.

It was more a personal account of her illness and how she’s had to work around that. I didn’t really find it helpful from a business perspective, more of just an interesting read as to how a fellow Vermont artist did their thing.

In no time, this neatly organized volume will yield your answer with a minimum of fuss, especially for those of us who switch languages between (or even within) projects and tend not to remember language elements at the margins.Perhaps the only failing of this book is that it is occasionally light on code examples. Especially when I'm in a hurry, a few lines of code make more sense than mentally parsing the complex array of options that might be presented in "definition form." But in most cases, in the places you most yearn for an example of source code, one is provided.One of the more valuable aspects of the reference material presented here are the numerous hints and kinks... The little traps that you can fall into with a given statement or function that ordinarily can only be gleaned from lots of hands-on experience. Sure, some of the tips are more valuable than others, but an attempt is made to cover the bases for both newbies and seasoned VBScripters.As is typical of most O'Reilly books, a very solid index makes a big difference, especially in a book like any of those from the Nutshell series where you're using it mostly for reference and not for front-to-back reading. In addition to the index, in the back of the book, you'll find language elements grouped by type. Want a refresher on all of VBScript's string handling? A complete list is right there waiting (and quite a boon to multi-language programmers).While Microsoft makes available a complete documentation system for their scripting languages available for free download in the form of a Windows help file (indexed, searchable, and full of code examples), I've found that neither this book nor the help file can replace the other. Rather, both are tools I refer to throughout virtually every VBScript project of any import than I tackle.Perhaps in their next edition of this book, the authors will choose to add more code examples -- something that would make an already very good book, even better.

It's about time someone else reviewed this book!I needed a good VBScript reference book to consult when doing scripting projects for my company. The entire book isn't just a reference to the VBScript language-- that's only about half of the book. The reference is organized alphabetically and contains a description, rules and usually a decent example of the VBScript function, statement, method, etc.So the surprise is the first half of the book, and it may be important to you and it may not. There are 20 pages on general program structure that most every programmer will find boring: pasing parameters by reference, passing variables into a subroutine, etc. After 8 more pages on data types and 22 pages on error handling/debugging, the authors included four other sections on VBScript with Active Server Pages, Programming Outlook forms, Windows Script Host, and VBScript with Internet Explorer. I found these sections to be out of the scope of what I was looking for in what O'Reilly calls a "desktop quick reference" book: simply a reference to the language.I gave it four stars because the thing is only $( ) and you are getting 500 pages. I bought the book for the reference, even if it has this other stuff I don't care about. If you are programming VBScript or ASP in Notepad without "Help" to consult, this may be the best pure VBScript book out there. It will come in handy.

The first part introduces Vbscript concepts which may already be known by the intermediate level target audience. The sections on error handling and Active Server Pages will be useful to me. A value of reading this book is to be introduced to topics you didn't previously know existed. For example, learning about programming Outlook forms and Windows Script Host were useful though I have no immediate need for them.The real meat is the 260 pages of the reference. Before jumping into that section, I would recommend reading Appendix A for a categorical listing of the elements. For example, if you are interested in doing string manipulation refer to the section on "String Manipulation" then look up the specific function alphabetically in the reference. I would also recommend browsing through the complete reference - you are sure to find some new useful function such as the dictionary, filtering, regular expression matches and complete set of string functions. In a few cases, I wish the examples were available on CD or from the web, but none are that long that re-typing is a major problem.

Probably THE best programming language book I've ever used. My original copy is practically worn out from referencing it.

VBScript is not my favorite scripting language, but my job includes a fair amount of it, so I need a reference. Of the reference books I have in my office, this is the one most likely to be sitting open on my desk at any given time. The reason that I don't give it five stars is that it is a bit dated. (I can argue that VBScript, itself, is a bit dated, so it's a minor complaint.)

I was in a scripting class and this book has made it a lot easier to understand scripting. I recommend this to anyone seriously thinking about scripting.

Since I had never used VBScript before I bought this book to get a quick start on the syntax and functions available in VBScript. It brought me up to speed very quickly. I now use it as a quick reference. Very well put together book. I would highly recommend it to others.VBScript in a Nutshell, 2nd Edition

Haven't had it that long, but I can look up the parameters to function calls quickly in this book. If I just had to have one VBScript book, this would be it.
