The book is a wonderful read. It is a great addition to any book collection.
Got this book for Christmas and could not put it down. Although the remarkable illustrations of the postcards themselves make a great book just to browse through, the accounting of the artist's perseverance through two world wars only to find himself stuck behind the iron curtain tell a truly intriguing love story of life and war. The book works on several levels, as the author herself comes to discover her own personal connection to the story of the artist... a must read!
This book is thoroughly researched and documented. It is extremely well written and beautifully illustrated.The hauntingly captivating postcards sent by Schubert to his beloved chronicle both the historical and emotional ravages of war in a unique manner. For anyone interested in "The Great War" this is a not to be missed book.
